Currently in Steamboat Springs for a Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior ‘Select Team’ Training Camp. I love Steamboat. This place is awesome. Between the 12 ‘select team’ kids and the other kids from the SSWSC team, there are 23 kids here taking part in the training. I am getting motivated! These kids are working hard in an intensity week with time trials or strength tests everyday. They are tough. I can hope to be tough too.
So, as for my training… kind of horrible right now. I have been swamped and busy with ski team stuff, mountain bike stuff, youth group stuff, etc. On top of that I managed to catch a little head cold. So, to repeat, I am super strong right now, very very strong… world class strong. Do I have the running legs?… that is the big question. I have one more ‘block’ of big volume planned, along with a reduction in strength training, so, hopefully the legs will ‘free-up’ and come around. I think they will. The Leadville 100 is exactly one one month away today. I am excited. I will be fortunate enough to be in Leadville again this weekend. My buddy from highschool (whom I have not seen in several years) is getting into the ultra-world and will be competing in the ‘Silver Rush 50’ this weekend. So, I will get to watch him race, do a long run myself, and start my last big block of volume. Time is short… time to get after it.
The pictures are from our trip to the Grand Canyon last October. I miss that area, absolutely stunning and beautiful. This bottom pic is from the North Rim, but the top pic is a South Rim shot. (I was dying from a lack of electrolytes, and could afford to stop and take pics at this point.) We may be heading back this October. I encourage everyone to make the trip to the GC and do the Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim; absolutely amazing. I encourage everyone who is training for the Leadville 100 to put in some more good training; and make sure you take some good rest in this last month prior to the event. More updates to follow. Train well, live well. DC
