A solid week. I feel like I made some huge strides towards laying a great foundation. With the ‘New Year’ coming about this week and a slightly more relaxed week with my ski team, I had a little more flexibility to get out there and train well. I skied some good ski workouts, had fantastic weight room sessions, and ran very well every day. There was not any shoveling to be done this week and consequently, I managed to maintain my energy levels, and not deplete myself from the training mission.
So, here is the week that was:
A very good week for me. I focused my effort on four runs: 17.5 miles, 20 miles, 20 miles, 21 miles. This was (as planned) my first 100 mile week since the 2008 Leadville 100 week. I also focused on the strength training. I slept very well, with over 8.5 hours each night. I ate well, and managed to drink a moderate amount of coffee again. (not excessive) The strength training was great. The skiing was super and I felt my body getting stronger on skis this week too, which is a good sign that I am healthy, resting well, eating well, and recovering well. I was dropped by a 15 year old girl during skate ski intervals on Friday. (Hannah Smith) (remember the name) (she is good). I am very fortunate to coach her and she is definitely heading in the right direction. Anyhow, a solid week. I will be facing some challenges over the next two weeks as I have a serious amount of work to get done, snow storms are rolling back in, (shoveling), and travel for skiing starts up again next week. So, I just need to keep things in balance, be sure I am resting well, and carry the momentum from the past couple of weeks. Thanks for reading. Stay tuned. Duncan C
