Here are a few pictures from this past weekend at the Grand Mesa 100 with friends Ryan and Megan Burch. Annie and I were stoked to head over there and help crew and pace. Ryan won the epic, inaugural 100 miler in 23:26. Megan was 3rd in the women’s 50 miler. The course was ‘rough’ with many poorly marked sections (some markers were trampled or ripped down). There were also several sections of true ‘cross-country’ running without trails or roads. During the 2nd half of the race, most of the trails that were used clearly had not been used in over 10 years. This race was all about moving forward through route-finding, bushes, trees, and keeping a positive attitude. Ryan and I managed to get off course on several occasions, but he made it all the way to finish for his first 100 mile race victory. Way to go buddy. There are so many stories that came out of this event; Ryan will be telling stories for decades to come. (It should also be noted that of the 30 starters in the 100 miler, only 5 finished). This was epic.
