Just wanted to post an ‘ultra-brief’ update (pun intended). I am leaving today with one of the cross country ski athletes who I coach to head to the USSA XC Ski Junior Nationals in Truckee, CA. I just read a blurb that they have received 4 feet of snow in the past 36 hours!!! Is this true? Anyway; we’ll be heading out there with the entire team of 40 skiers from the Rocky Mountain Nordic Division, and will be competing against skiers from Alaska to Maine, and everywhere in between. I’ll be away from the computer for a while, however, I will continue to post twitter updates which you can follow on the right side of this blog.
Training has been going very well as of late. After the Rocky Raccoon 50 mile race back on February 7th, I took a week off; and then jumped back into training with several long runs over the past few weeks. Last Friday, February 27th was the longest at 6 hours 40 min. and 45 miles. That was a great run that really pushed me mentally and enhanced my endurance. I have also had several 3 and 4 hour runs. In addition I have really kept on the strength training. My weight room sessions have been super and I am feeling very strong.
Essentially, the hay is in the barn now as I am preparing for the Moab 100 on March 28th in Moab, UT. I will not have an opportunity to train while in Truckee; at these ski championships, (a 12 day trip). So I will be doing short 60 min runs, and skiing when I can. I will actually rest my body a little from the rigors of long runs; this is a good thing. I am sure to pick up extra bits of inspiration and motivation from watching all of these kids push their limits, learn to suffer, and fulfill season-long goals. Once back from this trip on March 17th, I will do one more long run of 4 hours, and then taper right down to nothing before heading to Moab. I can’t wait. Thanks for reading, happy training, and remember why you do this stuff!!
